Spring is just around the corner and our Tampa landscaping specialists have put together a handy list of tips to help you get your gardens ready for the change of seasons. Spring is a wonderful season for avid gardeners because it’s the perfect time to plant new flowers, trees, shrubs and more and enjoy them for many years to come. Here are our top five tips for getting your gardens ready for Spring:

  1. Map out a garden plan. Perhaps you want to add a vegetable patch, or plant a new type of flower or a different type of tree. Drawing out a map of your garden will help you make the best use of the space and improve the overall design. If you want to make major landscape renovations you’ll definitely need to map out a garden plan beforehand.
  2. Have your lawnmower serviced now. The repair shops won’t be as busy this time of year and it’s the perfect chance to have the blades sharpened, get the fuel lines flushed and have the carburetor cleaned.
  3. Get rid of all the weeds in your garden. Winter weeds often grow quickly and can flower when the weather gets warmer, so either pull them up or apply weed killer to your garden before they have a chance to spread.
  4. Enrich your soil by putting down a layer of composted manure or compost. The perfect time to do this is right before you put new seeds and plants in the soil.
  5. Lay down mulch. We recommend putting down a two-inch layer of mulch on your perennial beds as it helps moderate temperature fluctuations, adds organic matter and other nutrients to the spoil, regulates moisture and keeps the ground from getting too dry.
